PALM OIL ACTION CHALLENGE
Much of the rainforests in Malaysia and Indonesia are being cleared for palm oil plantations, which releases large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. In addition to these emissions, the deforestation of these rainforests also removes the habitat of many endangered animals like the Bornean and Sumatran orangutans, the Sumatran rhinoceros, the Sumatran elephant, the Bornean pygmy elephant, and the Sumatran elephant. This deforestation not only drives animals out of their natural habitats but also forces the indigenous people living in these forests out of their homes. Human rights issues such as worker exploitation and child labor are also present on these plantations. Deforestation for palm oil plantations is clearly affecting our planet and those who inhabit it negatively, and action must be taken soon.
